How to breed the best flying mounts in Palworld
A good flying mount changes the whole game — travel, exploration and escaping bad fights. This guide lists which flyers you can actually breed, the cheapest verified routes, and the passives that make them fast.

Why a flyer comes first
A flying mount changes how you play Palworld. You cross the map in minutes instead of hours, reach resource nodes and towers that are painful on foot, and escape fights you cannot win. The catch is that the best flyers in the game are not the easiest to get: some spawn only at level 50 and above, and a few cannot be bred from two different parents at all. Breeding is how most players get a good flyer early, because the parents for the mid-game options are catchable long before the flyers themselves. Enter the pair you already own in the Palworld Breeding Calculator and set the flyer you want as the target to see your shortest route.
Cheap early flyers worth breeding
Your first flyer should be cheap, not perfect. Nitewing spawns in the wild around level 12 and is an easy early catch; Vanwyrm and Elphidran both spawn around level 20 and are a clear step up. None of them is a speed demon, but they all teach you the breeding loop — catch a male and a female, stock a cake, and start improving the line with speed passives while you are still exploring. A mediocre flyer you breed yourself beats a great flyer you cannot reach yet.
When you breed an early flyer, look for parents that already carry one movement passive, even a weak one — the child can inherit it, and a Nitewing with a single Swift flies noticeably better than a plain one. Keep both genders of your best flyer, because same-species pairs become your passive farm later: two good parents, generation after generation, is how a slow starter becomes the fastest mount you own.
Mid-game upgrade: breed Suzaku
Suzaku is the classic mid-game flying mount: strong, versatile, and breedable from a long list of parent pairs. This site's engine lists 197 parent pairs for it, and the cheapest practical route uses parents from much lower levels than Suzaku's own wild level of 40. Breed Broncherry, which spawns in the wild at level 23, with Grizzbolt, which spawns at level 30, and the egg is Suzaku. Neither parent needs a specific gender for this pair, so whichever male and female you catch first will do. Once you have one Suzaku, breed it with a partner carrying speed passives and each generation gets faster.
Frostallion Noct: the special combination
Frostallion Noct is one of the fastest flying mounts in the game and a status symbol in the late game, and it cannot be made with the normal breeding formula. It only comes from a special combination: Helzephyr plus Frostallion. The engine lists just two ways to get it — this special combination, or two Frostallion Nocts of the same species. Helzephyr spawns in the wild at level 24, which is far earlier than Frostallion at level 60, so catch your Helzephyr early and hold onto a good one while you work toward the Frostallion half of the pair. Special combinations are listed in full on the special combos page.
Flyers you cannot cross-breed
Some of the most famous flyers in Palworld only breed with their own kind. Jetragon, the fastest flyer in the game, spawns in the wild at level 60 and can only make eggs with another Jetragon — you must obtain one before you can breed more of them. The same rule applies to Shadowbeak, which spawns at level 50. This matters for planning: for these Pals there is no clever parent-pair shortcut, so your time is better spent levelling a team that can catch the first one, then breeding that one for better passives. The legendary guide covers the full list of self-only Pals.
Passives that make a flyer fast
Raw species speed is only half the story. Movement-speed passives such as Swift and Legend stack onto whatever flyer you ride, and they are inherited through breeding — which is why serious players breed dozens of eggs of one flyer and keep the fastest child as the next parent. Breed your first Suzaku or Nitewing, then cross it with any Pal carrying the passives you want; the children can inherit them, and each generation gets a little faster. Our passive skills guide walks through inheritance odds, bloodlines, and how to build a donor line for exactly this job.
Mistakes that waste cakes
The most common mistake is breeding for a flyer whose parents you have not checked. Two random strong Pals average out to something you did not want, because the egg is decided by the average of the parents' breeding power — so always check the pair in the calculator before spending a cake. The second mistake is using pairs from pre-1.0 guides: breeding values changed across the whole Paldeck in version 1.0, and old flying-mount pairs often no longer work. The third is forgetting that special combinations and self-only Pals ignore the formula entirely: no average of anything gives you Frostallion Noct or a second Jetragon. And do not stop at one egg — hatch several, keep the fastest, and breed the next generation from it.

Common questions
What is the cheapest flying mount to breed?
Suzaku is the best-value mid-game flyer: the engine lists 197 parent pairs, and the Broncherry plus Grizzbolt route uses parents from levels 23 and 30, well below Suzaku's own level 40.
How do you get Frostallion Noct?
Only through the special combination of Helzephyr plus Frostallion, or by breeding two Frostallion Nocts. No normal parent-pair average produces it.
Can you breed Jetragon?
Yes, but only with another Jetragon — it cannot be cross-bred from two different species, so you must obtain one first.
Which passives make flying mounts faster?
Movement-speed passives such as Swift and Legend. They are inherited through breeding, so breed your fastest child into the next generation.
Do old flying-mount pairs still work?
Often not. Version 1.0 changed breeding values across the whole Paldeck, so check any old pair in the calculator before spending cakes on it.
