Best breeding pairs for base-work Pals in Palworld

A strong base runs on good workers. These are the breeding pairs worth aiming for in Palworld v1.0, job by job: handiwork, watering, mining, kindling and all-round help.

Why breed workers instead of catching them

The best workers live in dangerous late areas, which makes catching them a project of its own. Breeding flips that around: the parents are usually easier to catch than the worker itself, and breeding lets you pick up better passive skills along the way. Work out which job your base is short on, then breed for that job specifically.

Handiwork: Anubis

Handiwork is the job that gates most crafting, and Anubis is the best handiwork worker most players will breed. Breed it from Blazamut + Dualith, or use the cheaper Whalaska route in our Anubis breeding guide. One Anubis at a crafting station changes how fast your whole base produces.

Watering: Jormuntide

Watering keeps your farms and mills running. Breed Jormuntide from Moldron + Blazamut or Suzaku Aqua + Blazamut. If you are already breeding Blazamut for Anubis, the first pair reuses that work, which makes Jormuntide a natural second project.

Mining: Astegon

Ore and stone are the bottleneck for every big build. Breed Astegon from Moldron + Lyleen Noct or Blazamut + Celesdir. A pair of Astegon at your quarry keeps ore ahead of your building plans.

Kindling: Blazamut

Furnaces, cooking pots and heaters all need kindling. Breed Blazamut from Reptyro Cryst + Lyleen Noct. Blazamut also helps with mining, so it pulls double duty at a base that is short on workers. Note that Blazamut is also a parent for Anubis and Jormuntide above, so breeding one early pays off three times.

All-round help: Wumpo

Some bases need a generalist more than a specialist. Breed Wumpo from Warsect Terra + Grizzbolt or Ragnahawk + Warsect Terra. Wumpo helps with transporting, lumbering and cooling, so it fills whatever gap your specialists leave.

Your first base helper: Penking

Before any of the above, breed Penking from Dazzi + Mimog. Penking is the classic early all-rounder, helping with watering, mining, handiwork, transporting and cooling. It will not beat a specialist at any single job, but one Penking covers five jobs while your base is still small.

Planting note: Lyleen

Lyleen is the planting and medicine specialist many bases want, but it follows the same-species rule: it only hatches from Lyleen + Lyleen, and it spawns in the wild at level 58. Catch one first, then breed it with another of its kind. The same rule is explained in our legendary Pals guide.

Tips for a working base

Breed for work passives as well as species. A worker with a work-speed passive such as Artisan outperforms a plain one at the same job, and our passive skills guide explains how to move passives onto your workers. Breed extras so every key job has both a male and a female worker available, and always match the worker to the job it suits best rather than letting Pals wander to random tasks.

How many workers do you actually need?

One specialist per job is the right starting point: one Anubis on handiwork, one Jormuntide on watering, one Astegon on mining, one Blazamut on kindling. After that, add a floater — a Penking or Wumpo that covers whatever job is busy — rather than a second specialist. Workers also rest, eat and sometimes get injured, so keep one spare of your most important job; a base that stops crafting because its only handiwork Pal is resting is a base that loses a day. Breed those spares from the same pairs on this page, since you already know the route. Finally, put each worker on the job it suits and leave it there: a specialist that wanders to random tasks helps nobody, while one that stays on its job keeps the whole base moving.

Common questions

Which Pal is best for handiwork?

Anubis is the best handiwork worker most players will breed. Breed it from Blazamut + Dualith, or use the cheaper Whalaska route in our Anubis breeding guide.

Can I breed a good miner early?

Astegon needs mid-game parents, so start with Penking from Dazzi + Mimog as an early all-rounder, then work towards Astegon from Moldron + Lyleen Noct.

Do work passives matter?

Yes. A worker with a work-speed passive such as Artisan finishes jobs noticeably faster than a plain one. Breed the passive onto your workers using a bloodline.

Why won't my worker Pal breed?

The usual causes are a missing cake, two Pals of the same gender, or a pair from a pre-1.0 guide that no longer works. Check the pair in the calculator first.

Can one Pal cover every job?

No. Build a team per job instead: Anubis for handiwork, Jormuntide for watering, Astegon for mining, Blazamut for kindling, and Wumpo or Penking for general help.
