How to breed Legendary Pals in Palworld

Legendary Pals follow one strict rule: they only hatch from two of the same species. Here is how to catch your first one, and how to breed it into something better.

The one rule that matters

Most Pals can be bred from two different species, because the game averages the parents' breeding power and picks the closest Pal. Legendary Pals are left out of that formula entirely. The only pair that hatches a legendary is two of the same legendary — Jetragon + Jetragon gives Jetragon, and the same holds for every other legendary. Breeding a legendary with any other species never produces the legendary, no matter how strong the other parent is.

The five legendaries

Jetragon. The fastest flying mount in the game, and the one most players chase first. It spawns in the wild at level 60.

Frostallion. The ice legendary, also a flying mount, and a strong ice fighter. It spawns in the wild at level 60.

Paladius and Necromus. A matched pair of legendaries that appear together as bosses. Both spawn in the wild at level 60, and both follow the same same-species breeding rule.

Xenolord. The odd one out: it does not appear as a normal wild spawn at all. You obtain it through its raid encounter first, and after that the same rule applies — Xenolord + Xenolord is the only way to breed more.

Other rare Pals follow the same pattern even though they are not legendaries. Shadowbeak, Grizzbolt and the rest of the self-only Pals listed in the main breeding guide can also only be bred from two of their own kind.

Catching your first legendary

There is no shortcut around the first catch. Legendaries live in late areas and appear as bosses, so go in prepared: a strong team, plenty of high-grade spheres, and enough healing to survive a long fight. Most of them spawn at level 60, which means your own team should be close to that level before you try. If the fight goes badly, you can retry — the boss returns — so treat the first attempt as practice if needed.

Breeding for better passives and stats

Once you own a male and a female of the same legendary, breeding becomes your tool for improvement. The child is always the same species, but its passive skills and stat talents are rolled fresh each time. Breed several eggs, keep the child with the best combination, and use that child as a parent for the next round. Cakes with inheritance bonuses from version 1.0 help here, since they raise the chance that a parent's good passive carries over. The full method is covered in our passive skills breeding guide.

Legendary Pals also carry the Legend passive, and their children can inherit it. That makes a well-bred legendary doubly valuable: it is both the mount or fighter you wanted and the donor for future breeding projects.

What does not work

Breeding a legendary with a strong non-legendary does not give you a legendary child — the formula skips legendaries, so the egg will be something else entirely. Breeding two different legendaries together does not combine them either. And pairs from guides written before version 1.0 are unreliable, because breeding values changed across the whole Paldeck. If a pair is not two of the same legendary, it will not hatch one.

Which legendary should you chase first?

Most players chase Jetragon first, and for good reason: it is the fastest flying mount in the game, so it changes how you travel, gather and reach bosses. Frostallion is the better pick if your team needs ice damage or you want a flying mount that also fights hard. Paladius and Necromus are best treated as a pair project, since they are fought together and both need their own same-species breeding line afterwards. Xenolord is the long-term goal: the raid comes first, and only then does breeding open up. Whichever you chase, remember that the first catch is the hard part. Once you own a breeding pair, every further legendary of that species is just a matter of cakes and time, and each new hatch is another chance at better passives.

Common questions

Can I breed Jetragon from other Pals?

No. Jetragon only hatches from Jetragon + Jetragon. The same same-species rule applies to every legendary Pal.

How do I get my first legendary?

You must catch one first. Most legendaries spawn as bosses in late areas at level 60. Xenolord is different: it does not appear as a normal wild spawn, so you obtain it through its raid encounter.

Does breeding two legendaries give a stronger legendary?

The child is always the same species, but its passive skills and stat talents are rolled fresh. Breed several eggs and keep the best child as a parent for the next round.

Can legendaries pass on the Legend passive?

Yes. Legendary Pals carry the Legend passive, and their children can inherit it through normal breeding.

Why do legendary eggs take so long?

Rarer Pals come in bigger eggs that take longer to breed and longer to hatch. Legendary pairs are among the slowest in the game, so plan around the wait.
