Palworld cake farming guide: breeding farm setup
Every egg costs one cake. If you plan to breed seriously, cake farming is the whole game — this guide sets up the full recipe, ranch and plantation chain so your breeding farm never stalls.

Why cake is the real bottleneck
Every single egg costs one cake — no cake in the farm's chest, no egg, no matter how perfect your parent pair is. A serious breeding project burns through cakes fast: improving a flyer's passives or hunting a perfect breeding line can take dozens of eggs, which means dozens of cakes. Most players hit a wall here not because of breeding knowledge, but because their ingredient supply cannot keep up. Cake farming is really five supply chains running at once, and this guide sets all of them up. Once the farm is stocked, open the Palworld Breeding Calculator and pick your pairs — the calculator handles the breeding maths while your kitchen handles the cakes.
The exact recipe
One cake takes the following ingredients, cooked in the Cooking Pot, which unlocks at level 17:
- Flour × 5
- Red Berries × 8
- Milk × 7
- Egg × 8
- Honey × 2
Baking also needs a Pal with the Kindling work suitability at the Cooking Pot, and it takes a while — so never bake a single cake when you can bake a batch. The numbers above are per cake, so multiply by how many eggs you plan to make.
The ranch: your ingredient engine
Three of the five ingredients come from a Ranch. Assign Mozzarina to a Ranch and it drops Milk, assign Chikipi and it drops Eggs, and assign Beegarde and it drops Honey. Keep several of each grazing at once — a single Mozzarina cannot keep up with a batch of cakes. Build a chest near the Ranch so transport Pals move the drops somewhere safe, and remember that milk, eggs and honey spoil over time, so do not stockpile more than you can bake reasonably soon. All three of these Pals also drop their ingredient when caught or defeated in the wild, which is a handy backup when your ranch is still small.
Flour and berries: the plantation chain
Flour starts as wheat. Build a Wheat Plantation and a Mill — both unlock at level 15 — grow wheat from Wheat Seeds, and grind it into flour at the Mill. Wheat Seeds drop from wild Pals including Bristla, Flopie, Cinnamoth and Robinquill, so grab every seed you find until the plantation is self-sustaining. Red Berries are the easy part: a Berry Plantation at your base keeps them flowing, and you will harvest more than cake farming ever uses. Put a Feeding Box near the plantations so your working Pals stay fed without you micromanaging them.
Bridging the gaps with merchants
Before your ranch and plantations are self-sustaining, the Wandering Merchant fills the gaps — merchants sell cake ingredients such as milk, eggs, flour and berries for gold coins. Buying is a bridge, not the plan: gold spent on ingredients is gold not spent on spheres and gear, and honey is rarely worth buying, so grow your Beegarde ranch instead. Switch each chain to your own base as soon as you can, starting with whatever you bake the most of.
The breeding farm loop
The Breeding Farm itself unlocks at level 19. Place it at the same base as your kitchen so the cake supply is a short walk away: assign one male and one female Pal to the farm, drop your cakes into the chest next to it, and the first egg appears once they have settled in. Each cake produces one egg, so count your planned pairs before you start baking. Collect the egg, put it in an Egg Incubator, and start the next pair — a well-run farm is a pipeline, not a one-off event.
Scaling up: how many cakes per session
A casual session of five or six pairs needs five or six cakes, which is a comfortable single bake once the ranch and plantations are running. A serious session — rerolling passives on a flyer or building a breeding line for a legendary — can need twenty or more cakes, and that is where the supply chains get tested. The usual choke points are honey and the cooking time: Beegarde grazes slowly and the Cooking Pot bakes one cake at a time, so start your bakes early and keep the ranch stocked with extra Beegarde. As a rule of thumb, if you plan to breed this evening, start baking this morning.
Mistakes that waste ingredients
The most expensive mistake is baking cakes before choosing your pairs. Every cake is a pile of ranch time and plantation work, so verify the pair in the calculator first — a pair that gives the wrong child turns five ingredients into a lesson. The second mistake is letting ingredients spoil: milk, eggs and honey have a shelf life, so bake in batches you will actually use. The third is forgetting kindling — the Cooking Pot needs a kindling Pal assigned or nothing bakes. And the fourth is the classic one: putting the parents on the farm and walking away without checking the chest, then wondering why no egg appeared. No cake, no egg, every time.

Common questions
What is the Palworld cake recipe?
One cake needs 5 flour, 8 red berries, 7 milk, 8 eggs and 2 honey, cooked in the Cooking Pot (unlocks at level 17) with a kindling Pal assigned.
How many cakes do you need per egg?
One cake makes one egg. Multiply the recipe by the number of eggs you plan to breed.
Which Pals produce cake ingredients on a Ranch?
Mozzarina drops milk, Chikipi drops eggs, and Beegarde drops honey when assigned to graze on a Ranch.
How do you get flour for cakes?
Grow wheat in a Wheat Plantation and grind it in a Mill — both unlock at level 15. Wheat Seeds drop from wild Pals such as Bristla, Flopie, Cinnamoth and Robinquill.
Why is my Breeding Farm not producing eggs?
The usual cause is an empty cake chest: no cake, no egg. Also check that a male and a female are assigned, and that your game version matches the guide.
